Our means: Experimental platforms: acoustics of ventilation and air conditioning appliances


CETIAT has a double air conditioned reverberation chamber available.
It also has equipments adapted to measurement of acoustic power by sound intensity method
and by in-duct method.

Tested appliances

  • air conditioning units:
    • "split" air conditioners, mobile air-conditioner, fan coil units
    • air handling units, chillers, heat pumps
  • ventilation elements
    • air diffusers, air inlets, air transfer devices, mechanical exhaust ventilation systems
    • little construction elements for surfaces < 1m2


Platform performance:

  • overall background noise level (100 - 10 kHz) < 19 dB (A)
  • acoustic insulation standardised Dn,e up to 51 dB (A)
  • cooling capacity up to 40 kW
  • water flow rates up to 5 m3/h
  • air flow rates up to 10000 m3/h


Performed measurements:

  • simultaneous acoustic power measurements in the 2 chambers (in one-third octave bands)
  • standard sound insulation
  • acoustic absorption
  • air flow rates
